Omega-6, LN, GLA, DGLA, Arachidonic Acid

Arachidonic Acid (AA)

Omega 6 fatty acid (20:4n6) found in meat and peanut oil. It can also be derived from Linolic acid, converted by desaturase and elongase enzymes. The brain contains about 10% AA. From AA eicosanoids from the second series are made. These are pro-inflammatory and can cause chronic inflammatory diseases if the balance is wrong. Many people have to much omega-6 in their system leading to premature aging and chronic inflammation. If the fatty acid intake will not be balanced, it may lead to diseases such as atherosclerosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Asthma, Alzheimer, Crohn, Lupus, Parkinson, Psoriasis or other auto immune diseases. To avoid a raise in AA, lower intake of peanuts, meats and LN and raise omega-3 intake by fatty fish or fish oil capsules such as OmegaMatrix.
